"Hi, there. I wonder where the SMS are stored. I notice that there are around 700 MB of saved messages on my iPhone. So, I figure that I should find and get rid of them. Could anyone help me?"
This is one of the reasons why iPhone users might want to delete their private text messages. Of course, it can be easily done and no tool can restore these SMS again. So, it is like killing two birds with one stone-you can speed up the iPhone and at the same time, protect your privacy. But, before continuing, I suggest that you do a backup of the whole handset so that needed information can be recovered.
Download and install iPhone Data Eraser first. It is an excellent application for file deletion. There are three modes provided-"Erase Private Data", "Erase Deleted Files" and "Erase All Data".
You will see three parts in this article.
Only deleted and personal content such as Safari History and messages will be wiped. And you are able to choose the file types.
Step 1. Trust Your Computer on iPhone
Failed to connect your iDevice to the PC? Go to the handset and see if there is a box saying "Trust This Computer?". Tap "Trust" so that you can continue. (When that does not work out, try reconnecting it or change for a new USB cable. And sometimes restarting the computer is quite an option too.)
Step 2. Erase Selected Content
Press the third item on the side bar and you will see this. Click "Start Scan" and wait. The result is going to be shown before long. Both the "Messages" in the home directory and "Deleted Data" should be tick. (Tap the item "Deleted Data" and to unfold it. The very type we are looking for is in the second place.)
After that is done, press "Erase Now" and the software will show you that analysis is in process. Click "Done" when you see "Successfully erased".
Adopt this mode, "Erase Deleted Files", to make sure that the information you wiped is irrecoverable. Eight kinds are listed for you to choose-messages, contacts, call history, etc. The SMS can be previewed, by the way.
Step 1. Scan Deleted Files
Choose the fourth item on the left and click the button "Start Scan". Less than five minutes is needed.
Step 2. Totally Dump the SMS on iPhone
This is the scanning result. There are in total 26 deleted messages. Click the name and the details will be displayed. Next, tick "Messages" and press "Erase Now". (iPhone Data Eraser is not going to have any impact on your existing data. Don’t worry about it.)
Now, erasure is in process. Wait until it ends and press the button "Done". Besides the progress bar, you can also see the chosen files.
This way takes most time than the other two. That is because the entire phone is to be erased but not a specific item.
Step 1. Confirm Your Decision to Reset the iPhone
When clicking "Erase All Data", you will see this interface. Two things need to be done-select Security Level and enter the word "delete". Medium is recommended. Also, you can use the "High Level" or "Low Level" which overwrite your personal information once or three times respectively.(Click the word "Medium" and you can do it.)
And then, key in "delete" and press the button, "Erase Now" at the bottom.
Step 2. Tap "Done" When Erasure is Over
At the beginning of the step, your private data (text messages included), apps, photos, anything that is stored on the handset are all deleted.
Then, the software is going to let you know that the phone is restarting. What you have to do is keeping it connected. Finally, iPhone Data Eraser will write data on the free phone memory to ensure that those contents can not be gained by others.
Click "Done" at the end of it. And you phone is renewed.
Please note that backups which were done with iTunes are complete copies of all the data including recoverable deleted data. Take care of them if necessary. Have any question about iPhone Data Eraser? Let us know.
