Many Apple users have asked that how they can delete save text messages that are taking up the storage on their iPhone. Some cases are really weird. "When I went to 'usage’, I saw that my SMS have taken up 2GB. This has driven me crazy because I did not have any such file stored. So far, I have tried resetting my device, turning it off and on and restoring data from iCloud, but none of them worked." Patrick said. If you have this kind of problem, the guide may help you.
Download iPhone Data Eraser first. You are going to need it for clearing messages on an iPhone. This software, with its intuitive interface, is suitable for anyone, regardless of his/her knowledge about data erasure.
Click to download.
Note: Please do an iPhone backup before you get started. Because iOS Data Eraser has taken privacy into consideration, data that are dealt with by it will not and cannot be recovered again if you do not have the original information backed up.
Step 1.Connect iPhone to PC
Install and open the program. After that, get the iDevice connected to a computer via a USB cord. If you fail to do that, try tapping "Trust" on your phone screen if there is any.
When that is finished, click "Erase Private Data" which is in the blue section. And you will see this. Tap the button "Start Scan".
Step 2.Tick and Remove Messages
After a while when scanning is over, go to "Deleted Data" > check "Messages". And you also need to choose the existing ones by ticking the item of "Messages" in the home directory. Next, press "Erase Now" and wait for the end.
Files that you got rid of previously can still exist on the handset. You may not know where they are and do need to. Pick the items to erase and let iOS Data Eraser do the rest.
Step 1.Enter the Mode "Erase Deleted Files"
Click it when connection is done. And the next move is to tap on "Start Scan".
Through the progress bar you will have a clue that how far it has gone. This should not take you long.
Step 2.Choose the Item to Delete
The result will be shown in this way. Tick "Messages" in the 2nd place and press "Erase Now", the button on the bottom right.
If the first two modes do not work right, you can try this. And, please consider it as the last solution you take because the phone will be totally "reset". (You can think of it as "reset", except that the process is irreversible.)
Step 1.Confirm Your Will to Erase the iPhone
Tap on "Erase All Data". We need to select one of the security levels by clicking the word "Medium". There are in total three for you to choose. Commonly, "Medium" is enough for most of us. And then, key in the word "delete" and press "Erase Now".
Step 2.Wait until You See the Word "Completed"
Let it be understood that the 2nd step contains three parts. In the first one, iOS Data Eraser is going to do the private data (messages included).
In the second part, your iPhone will be turned off and on automatically. This is for the preparation of the last part.
In the third part, the software will overwrite those dumped files. Waiting is all you need to do. The estimate time left is displayed on top of the interface. And you can always make use of the button "Stop" when necessary.
Note: If you are using a free version, only the music and movie caches of the apps will be cleaned up.
